You know what they say… “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!”
I love making homemade lemonade in the summer but in the fall and winter months Meyer lemons come into season and are available here in big Costco sized containers. This gives me a great excuse to make lemonade in the less obvious winter months. I’m not much of a juice drinker but my son can make pretty short work of a pitcher and fresh is always just so much better.
Though fruit juices in general are high in sugar, at least when you make your own you can control just how much sugar is in them. When you use Meyers you don’t need quite as much either as they are a bit sweeter than your average lemon. If you are on a no sugar diet, a few drops of liquid stevia will work just as well to sweeten your drink.
Lemonade is another super easy thing to make at home. Basically, you just squeeze lemons to extract 1 Cup of juice, it usually takes about 5. Dissolve your desired amount of sugar ( I usually use about 2/3 C) in 1 Cup of boiling water. Mix your sugar water in to the juice in a 1 litre container and top up with 3 cups of cold water.
Stir well, refrigerate and enjoy some fresh squeezed vitamin C.
